A Sacred Wood
This small collection of images stems from a visit to the Saint-Rombaut Tower in Mechelen. At the entrance stood a miniature model of the cathedral. I was captivated by the fresh perspective it offered me, not only in scale but also in material. It is entirely constructed of wood. Strangely enough, the feeling one experiences upon entering a church often mirrors the same awe felt when venturing into a forest of towering oaks. "Throughout history, the significance of forest conservation has been acknowledged; these natural resources have consistently been regarded as the property of the state and managed in its name. Even religion has consecrated woodlands, presumably to safeguard through reverence that which must be preserved for public benefit. Our oaks no longer deliver oracles, nor do we seek their counsel on sacred matters; it is imperative that we replace this worship with diligent attention” Diderot - Encyclopedie 1ere edition tome 7.djvu/143
